Kentucky
Sorry about the previous few posts. I'm crap at keeping this blog updated, so thought I'd play catch up.
Kentucky
I'm back from helping out at the Sir Barton store. I'd like to say what an amazing experience it was. but I can't. It was hard dull work. Normally, at our store, we get two pallettes of books. At Sir Barton, we had 25! Then most of the rest of the first day was spent putting shelves together. The second day was spent sorting, pricing and reboxing books for each section. Dull!
The hotel was FREE, which makes it hard to find problems. but I will. It was souless. The walls of my room were just painted. no wallpaper. Which gave the room a strange echo. The bed and furniture were fine, but mass market produced dullness. There was nothing special about the hotel at all. just a place to sleep.
The drive was fine. Pretty simple drive down and teh hotel is really near the interstate. Even I didn't get lost.
Accents: I've just got used to the Indiana accent and I think indy has just got used to mine and then I'm thrust into Kentucky, which is a whole new ball game. It was quite a job to order a beer in the first place we went to...
"Do you have Stella?"
"Doowhat?"
"Stella?!, Or Kronenbourg?"
"Kronenwhat?"
"DO YOU HAVE ANY IMPORTS."
"We got some hiney-kin."
Then had to have a conversation about where I was from. The guy probably had never heard of England, let alone met anyone from europe.
One of the temps was an artist and a photographer, so we had something in common. He told me he was going to take a course at the U.K. which surprised me. I asked where abouts in the UK, but he actually meant the Univeristy of Kentucky. So we had a chuckle about that.
Hey, it's all fun. Just glad I was only there for two days.
