St George
Today, April 23rd, is St Georges day. The national day of England.
The Welsh have St David (a 6th century monk),
The Scots have St Andrew (A fisherman),
The Irish have St Patrick (An Englishman kidnapped to Ireland to tend sheep),
We English have St George The Dragon Slayer. Which is much more impressive I'm sure you'll agree.
Unlike the Irish though, it's not THAT big of a deal around the world, or in England come to that.
How we celebrate - Drink warm beer, eat fish and chips with mushy peas and appologise a lot. So pretty much a normal day.
Since I'm no longer living in England, I cling to these events, even though I never celebrated them when I was in England. If you drive past my house today, you'll see the George Cross fluttering. So, have a pint of warm ale in respect of my country.
